OPC Access
OPC is an industrial standard operating system of OPC
Foundation. It is used as a common language of industrial systems,
when systems from different manufacturers need to communicate. This
means that you can use OPC to integrate systems, which are
normallly running seperately. If you have a PLC Frequency
transformer or et SCADA system which a connected
to one of the following networks: EtherNet/IIP,
ControlNet, DeviceNet or RS232, OPC Access is able to
transfer data from the production equipment to an Access/SQL
database with a few clicks.
OPC Access combines an SQL Server with OPC, so that
you production equipment is connected to one or more databases.
The actions which can be executed is everything from
data logging to execution of programmes or stored procedures on the
SQL Server.
OPC Access is a sub-component when programmes and
database are connected to the production equipment or if you want
to log the data flow, which runs through it.
OPC Access has been tested at Rockwell Automation and
Siemens.
Why
use OPC Access?
With OPC Access installed, you will be able to transfer data
from the production system to an Access database.
When can
OPC Access be used?
OPC Access is an intelligent possilikity to make your
existing programmes cabable of using real time data from the
production equipment.
If your programmes have access to the database, it
will be continually updated with the latest information from the
production equipment. All of this without you having to think about
how this communication is taking place. OPC Access handles this
continuously - with a minimum of configuration.
In principle, the communication can go both ways
without any trouble. We will be happy to demonstrate the many
possibility to you, as well as add additional functionality if
required.
Examples of products witch OPC Access can
handle:
- Devices such as manometer, gas monitor, flow measurer and foto
encoder
- PLCs
- SCADA systems
- Databases
- Spreadsheets
- Text files
-
Web server
-
...
Special / specified communication features:
- Data logger
- Recipe management
- Alarm handling
- Batch control

Special adjustments
Edora is always ready with consultancy assistance if you need
development of extensive solutions. We are also ready to add
additional functionality to OPC Access, or help you design /
implement an extensive system. In case the Microsoft Access (MSDE)
datebase is not sufficient for your needs, we are also happy to
develop a solution based on other databases (Microsoft SQL Server,
Oracle, on so on).
OPC Access Heart
Beat
OPC Access uses a Heart Beat function. Heart beat is used to
continually investigate whether the connection to the SQL server or
the OPC server is active. Consequently, two types of heart beats
have been built in. The two types are continuous tests of the
connection between OPC Access and a tag in the PLC.
Interval and deviation are used to define the frequency between
updating the tags and how large a deviation is accepted. The
SQL server also comprehends a continuous test of the connection
between OPC Access and the SQL Server.
